Heart of Ohio Trail 15.6 Miles The project consists of preparation of right-of-way plans, title search, public input meeting, ESA screening, wetland location, Categorical Exclusion document, and right-of-way acquisition for a 15.6- mile corridor. The corridor comprises approximately 162 acres of Conrail Railroad right of way in Knox County. Due to the recent dissolution of Conrail Railroad, coordination with the railroad was necessary to determine of the company still owned the right of way and if they were willing to sell the land to the County. Client - Knox County Commissioners.
The Maple Highlands Trail - North 4.22 miles The bikeway begins at the north corporation limit of the City of Chardon and extends north to the Lake/Geauga County line. Various typical sections were utilized for the length of the 4.22 bikeway, including a 1.75 mile section that was constructed with safety grading along State Route 44, approximately 1 mile of bikeway constructed on new alignment in open terrain, and approximately 1.47 miles of bikeway on abandoned railroad ballast. A portion of the bikeway extends through a narrow corridor behind an exclusive residential subdivision that required the combination of a natural barrier and a privacy fence to gain public support for the bikeway. Client - Geauga Park District.
